discovering me v.1

I'm finding out several things about myself. Not big, life-changing things, but things that I've been aware of but never acknowledged. Here are my recent discoveries:

1. I have a love/hate relationship with the letter "r"
Let's just get this straight: I like the sound Rs make. Scratch that: I love the sound they make. Rs twirl off your tongue in such a way that they make words interesting. You can roll them, click them, breathe them, and strain them. But I can't stand the shape of them. Why? I have no idea. Rs are awkward to write, especially lowercase ones. They are a nuisance to the hand, and a pleasure to the tongue. Can you agree?

2. I am a fickle person and I need to take my time while making decisions.
I think I've always known this, but I've never expressed it to you guys. But it's true, I'm very fickle and I'm terrible at making decisions. If I have to choose between bacon or sausage, it'll take me a few minutes to decide. You ask me would I rather get the coral shorts or the turquoise ones? I'll get back to you in a day or so. And I did like that photo a week ago, but I think it's time for an updated one. And let's not even get started on blog designs. No really, let's not get started ;)

3. I do not take haircuts lightly.
I found this out recently, since I just got my haircut about a week and a half ago. I rarely let people touch my hair, and when I do I have high expectations. But no one knows my hair like I do, and unfortunately it shows. Volume is one thing, but pouf is an entirely another. I must admit, my hair is much more bouncy now that it's a bit shorts and cleaned up, but I do miss the length. But hair is hair, and it always grows back :)

Have you made any little discoveries about yourself lately?

quick rambles

As you guys may notice, a slight change has occurred involving the appearance of the little blog. Not a huge one, because I really enjoyed the colors and fonts of the previous design. But not only has "beautiful" undergone a change, Simply You Designs has experienced a full switcheroo!

I'm so satisfied and happy with my brand now. Because it really is a brand. The sites coordinate nicely (I think) and now I feel "beautiful" is official. Also, it's a nice way to welcome the new month. (School is almost upon us, I start in three weeks!)

What do you think? Like? No like?

what I've learned

first game of ultimate of the year 4/2/12
Summer is approaching. I can practically taste the warm air floating just out of reach that positively reeks of freedom. I've been thinking a lot these past nine months, thinking about where I would be if I hadn't gone to school. And thinking about what I've learned while at school. So here's a quick summary of what going to public school has taught me:

1. School buses are not long enough
Throughout the year, I've skipped around where I sit on the bus. Sometimes the third seat, sometimes the fifth, rarely the seventh. I'll get pretty attached to a seat and the BAM! I climb aboard and it's been taken. And somehow, every time I have to transfer seats I get placed closer and closer to someone who's a tad louder than the last person I sat next to. Go figure.

2. Sleeping is not hard
For the first few weeks of school, I was appalled at the thought of sleeping in public. But one day, something happened that changed my school life forever:
I dozed off.
Yep, that's right. I forget why I was extra tired that day, and I forget how long I slept, but who cares? I slept. And from that day on, I conked out every morning, and most afternoons.

3. Music is a quick fix to 99.99% of the world's problems (or, my problems)
It's true. Many times this year I've been about to scream, cry, or punch someone something and that's when I get the genius idea to plug in my earphones, crank up the volume, and lose myself in the music. The artists that have been on repeat since the beginning of the year? Kenny Chesney, Blackhawk*, Keith Whitley*, and Taylor Swift.

*If you have not been raised listening to these artists, you probably would not like/appreciate them like I do. This was the music my dad would rock me to sleep with as a baby, and that I danced around the living room to as a toddler.

4. Not all school lunches are bad
I've had friends come over after school some days and claim they had cardboard for lunch. Not true for my school. Their pizzas are the highlight of my day ;)

5.  99.99% of girls who go to school are insecure
Why is it that every girl who attends school has a reputation of being a jerk before you even meet her?Well, it's because they're insecure and want to draw everything away from their insecurities and have people focus on their words, which most of the time are the ugliest thing about them. Going to school has let me see how really self-conscious girls are. Even the nicest, prettiest, most popular girls in your class can have their insecurities–everyone does.
Since I wasn't raised in an environment to be concerned of what people thought of me, I went to school that way. And I'm sure I've changed a bit, but never once have I found myself complaining to myself or anyone else about something I seriously didn't like about myself. Sure, I've said "Geez I'm havin a bad hair day," and stuff like that, but nothing serious. And to be honest, I pride myself in that. I'm happy that I don't have any self-doubts and I just hope it rubbed off on other people.

6. It takes guts to stand up for someone
Several times over the past nine months I've stood up for different people in my class, most of time it was an autistic kid who didn't know that certain people were just not his friends. I've been lucky enough not to have been a target for bullying, and when I see bullying going on a flame ignites in me. Usually I just told the bully to knock it off, but sometimes when it got extreme I went to on of the administrators. Protecting someone is different from tattling, and I just wish more people knew it.

So that's what I've learned this year non-acedemic-wise. What have you learned?

I've been craving to go on a bohemian photo shoot-actually, just a photo shoot in general. I want to go out into a field of flowers with a camera strap around my neck and a model ready to be photographed and just snap away.
With summer approaching, I'm hoping to photograph some new people and span out in my photography "business". What are your plans for summer?

randomness galore

More palettes for you! I really love making these, especially with nature photos :)

If you can remember from my previous post, I said I've been using a certain makeup look for the past week. That hasn't changed, but I added something to it. I've been lightly lining my waterline with white eyeliner. It totally brightens up my eyes and give the whole look a softer appearance.

Now before you start raving about how incredibly brave and amazing I am for getting so close to a wasp just to take pictures of it, you should know that there was an inch of glass separating us. There is no way this big chicken is getting that close to a creature with a stinger!

yep.

We went to my great-aunts this weekend and it was a blast. Some highlights:

caramel frappes on the drive up

watching "Titanic", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Grease" with Kate and my cousins. Twice.

playing four-square with Mark and my cousin with bare feet in the pouring rain. (ok, technically three-square) It's been ages since I've played in the rain, and it was so... rejuvenating. After about 45 minutes we went back inside with crazy curly/stringy hair, sopping clothes, dirty feet, and light spirits.

How was your weekend?

a whole bunch of random

I've been a pretty downright horrible blogger guys. Just really really bad. But anywho, there is a reason, not a good reason, but still a reason:

I have been a busy busy bee and haven't had time to take/edit/post photos or anything else.
Also, apparently the fami;y's computer isn't working right so I couldn't edit photos even if I wanted to :'(

But I wouldn't leave you guys without something to look at, so here are some photos I found via Pinterest:

i believe an interesting title should go here

i've been a bad blogger, and I'm sure if I were a house elf I'd be beating myself with a lamp ("Bad Hannah! Hannah must blog more!"). I love Harry Potter ;)

anywho, I thinks its about time to tell you about my first day of school! Honestly, it was boring, but still somehow fabulous. The second day was the same but we met more of our teachers. I swear we had a meet 'n' greet in every single class (cue the "my name is Hannah, i want to be a photographer, blah blah blah).

Here are some photos from the first day of school:

I've been thinking over the design. I do like the sidebar-header thing, but I'm not totally feeling it. I really like the colors and the fonts though, so....... i think there could be a(nother) design change in the next few days.... possibly hours....

and, since I've missed posting photos so much, here are a few to make up for the 9 billion days I've been gone:

and here are some from the photo shoot a few days ago:

which photo is your favorite?
