weekend at the cabin

Cabin weekends are my favorite. For multiple reasons, really, but all the little details intertwine and come together to create two days of joy. Here are some scenes from a most memorable time:

homemade pizza...

cartwheels across the yard at dusk...

fresh garden produce...

pepperoni roll...

cream soda...

ping pong...

It was a great weekend. But it's nice to be home ;)

singin' in the rain

I can't even tell you the last time I've gone crazy in the rain. It' been a while. But there's just something about being the only one outside with your friends, running around in the street, getting completely soaked that makes me happy.

Jodie :)
I asked my friend Kayla to snap some photos of us using my camera because I was waaay to wet to do it myself!
Speaking of my camera, it has a new best friend! It's name is "50mm f/1.8G". They are pretty much in-seperable now ;)
What do you do on rainy days?

summer nights

Fireflies begin to shine,
as the pale sherbet sky fades to navy blue.
Laughter is heard from backyards, as little toddler's fingers,
reach for the glittering bugs.
Bare feet are running through the cool, green grass.
Hard breathing,
Harder sprinting.
Tennis balls are hurled,
Diving and twisting to dodge them.
Ice clinks against sweaty glasses,
and cold water is gratefully consumed.
Summer nights,
I missed you.

bucket list || june

June. Just the name of this magical month gives you pleasant thoughts of watermelon, wiffleball games and summer. During June I want to have several "goals" I want to meet. Here they are:

take at least five photos a day // eat watermelon like nobody's business // cartwheel across the yard in the morning dew // dance under the street lights // play rundown too much // try a new baking recipe ever week // sketch a portrait every day // go on more photo shoots // push myself out of my comfort zone when I'm graphic designing // journal every night // make someone a gift for no reason // laugh a lot

As I complete these, I'll update you guys on what I've done and what I have left. What's on your bucket list for June?

p.s. only two more days to my design sale! And vote on the sidebar poll :)

randomness galore

More palettes for you! I really love making these, especially with nature photos :)

If you can remember from my previous post, I said I've been using a certain makeup look for the past week. That hasn't changed, but I added something to it. I've been lightly lining my waterline with white eyeliner. It totally brightens up my eyes and give the whole look a softer appearance.

Now before you start raving about how incredibly brave and amazing I am for getting so close to a wasp just to take pictures of it, you should know that there was an inch of glass separating us. There is no way this big chicken is getting that close to a creature with a stinger!

yep.

We went to my great-aunts this weekend and it was a blast. Some highlights:

caramel frappes on the drive up

watching "Titanic", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Grease" with Kate and my cousins. Twice.

playing four-square with Mark and my cousin with bare feet in the pouring rain. (ok, technically three-square) It's been ages since I've played in the rain, and it was so... rejuvenating. After about 45 minutes we went back inside with crazy curly/stringy hair, sopping clothes, dirty feet, and light spirits.

How was your weekend?

the hunger games tag

With the grand premier of the Hunger Games movie in just ONE WEEK(!!!!!!) I've decided to honor the occasion by creating a Hunger Games tag! EEK! Here are the rules:

1. You must be an insane, crazy, die-hard fan of the Hunger Games to be able to do this tag.

2. If I tag you, you must make up your own question and tag as many fans I you can think of ;) Yep, that's pretty much it. So, without further ado, here are the questions:

1. Your sister's/brother's/best friend's name gets called at the reaping. What is your immediate reaction?
I would do anything for my siblings, without a doubt I would volunteer myself. That is the complete and honest truth. Though, I have to admit, I'd be bawling my eyes out!

2. In the training center, there are several different stations to practice your skills, some of them being how to camouflage yourself, archery, sword training, climbing, spear throwing, hand-to-hand combat (wresting), and agility. Which one would you head for?
My strategy would probably be to spend an hour at each station every day. Or work on what I was worst at, which would probably be wrestling. But then again, I've never exactly "speared" anyone ;)

3. You're in the arena and the countdown has just started. When the cannon goes off, what's your strategy?
I hope I'm not alone in saying I'd get the heck out of there. I would definitely run as fast I could away from everybody else. With any luck I'd be able just to hide somewhere and let everyone else do the dirty work...

4. You are feeling like you're being watched. You glance over your shoulder and sure enough, the youngest tribute in the Games is watching you. What do you do?
It would depend on what this tribute was doing. If he/she had a weapon at the ready I would either run away as fast I could , or get down on my knees and beg and cry. If he/she was weaponless, then I'd probably attempt prove to them that I'm a total wimp and try to make a new friend :)

5. There are only four tributes left in the arena, including you. What do you do?
Find somewhere safe to hide!

6. Which supporting character are you most like and why?
Gaah! This is hard for me, but I'm going to have to say........... geez, I really don't know! Probably Madge, just because she's loyal and trustworthy.

7. Which supporting character is your favorite?
Cinna. By far Cinna. Definitely Cinna. 100 percent, without a doubt, no question, Cinna. Hey, did I mention Cinna? Because I absolutely love him. Not sure if you knew or not.... ;) Rue is a close second though (as in being-a-millimeter-away-close second).

That's it! I tag:

Megan Kristine
Lauren
Jocee
Abby
Hope
guinevere
Olivia
Abby Moreland
Jessica
MaryRachel

And YOU if you're a Hunger Games fan :) If you do this tag, please leave a link to it in a comment, I'd love to see your answers!

makeup tutorial: color POP!

This is a really fun makeup look that anyone can pull off if they have the right color POP for their eyes :)
Here's a chart to keep in mind:

  • Blue eyes.......... gold or blue
  • Green eyes.......... purple or turquoise
  • Brown eyes.......... purple, blue
  • Hazel eyes.......... magenta, silver,
Those are the colors I think would look good on you if you want to do a color pop. To find out how to do a color pop, keep reading!
Products used:
Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Shadow in Too Cool
Revlon ColorStay Quad in Coffee Bean
Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Retractable Eyeliner Trio (black and purple)
Madison Street Beauty Eyeshadow in Wisteria
Covergirl All-in-One Mascara
Physicians Formula Talc-Free Powder Foundation
Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in #20
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Apricot Fantasy

start out with a clean face, no makeup:
yep, that's me with no makeup..... ;P
 step 1: prime your lids

step 2: apply a light cream color to the inner half of your lid

step 3: pat an ultra-light taupe color on the other half of your lid

step 4: take an angled crease brush...
and sweep a copper color into your crease. You can bring it into your outer corner too, if you want.

step 5: take your favorite black eyeliner and smudge it into your upper lashline. Bring it a tiny little bit above the upper lashline and line the outer half of your upper lid.

step 6: take a dark brown matte shadow and set the liner with it, smudging the liner ever so slightly.

step 7: using your choice of color (see chart above for my suggestions of which colors go with which eye colors), line your waterline with eyeliner and smudge it into your lower lashes.

step 8: wet a thin eyeshadow brush and mix the water with an eyeshadow that matches your eyeliner.

this is actually a paintbrush but I've never used it to paint before, so i use it for makeup.

step 9: line your lower lashline with the wet shadow.

step 10: curl your lashes (and for all those people who think eyelash curlers are scary, they're not!)

step 11: apply a generous amount of your favorite mascara

i try to be generous without being clumpy :)

Your done with the eyes!

step 12: apply your foundation

step 13: pat a coral-peach cream blush to the apples of your cheeks

step 14: dab a peachy lip color on your lips and your done!

I hope you guys enjoyed this fun tutorial! If you have any requests for future looks, leave a comment and I'll see what I can do :)
