12:41am

It's 12:41am and I'm thinking about success and failure.

It's 12:42am and I'm worrying about my high school career, and what comes afterwards.

It's 12:45am and I'm pondering different ways to make a living while still doing the things that I love.

It's 12:46am and I'm cursing myself for thinking about the future so much.

It's 12:50am and I'm remembering I have to wash my tennis uniform for my match tomorrow.

It's 12:51am and I'm trying to keep my eyes open.

It's 12:52am and I'm sick and tired of stress.

It's 12:53am and I'm still sick and tired of stress, but this photo helps a little.

baseball season, senior season

greeting pals and gals! (a "Grease" quote. I could probably recite that movie word for word.) Last week, my cousin and I went to a Pirate game after her senior portrait session (those photos coming soon!). Let me tell you, I have sincerely missed baseball season. Even though I brought my camera, I couldn't really get too many photos because 1. my telephoto lens' aperture only opens to 4.5 and the lighting was cruddy and 2. there was a large man sitting in front of me. Anywho, here's the only decent photo that came out of that night.
Jose Tabata taking a cut. I believe he struck-out this at-bat.

Even though the bucs lost, it was a great day and I was so glad to take my cousins senior photos and spend the day with her. We got in some much-needed cousin-ly bonding time.

Do you guys have a favorite sport to watch?

mornings

I wouldn't say I'm not a morning person, because I love mornings and the simplicity and new-ness each one brings, I just tend to miss a whole lot of mornings due to my stereotypical teenager-y habits.  Sleep, my friends, is a wonderful, wonderful thing.
However, this morning I woke up at 5:15, played tennis from 6-7, and then came home, planning to shower and go back to sleep.
But who can sleep when there are fresh muffins, a whistling teapot, and a new drawing table from Ikea that's calling your name? Not me, that's for sure.
Are you a morning person?

"...something to hope for."

I was with my dad in the car the other day, and we were talking about some old story from my childhood. When we were finished laughing and remembering, he said, "You were such a happy kid, Hannah." I didn't take this as "Geez, you used to be so happy, what happened??" I took it as "Your childhood years were so full of joy and so many priceless, jubilant memories are the result of them."
I really was happy. Looking back, I remember myself as a carefree, curly-haired kid full of laughter and creativity.

I still am happy. I'll admit it, I'm not satisfied, but I'm happy. I just feel like there is so much I could be doing with my life, so many different paths to choose from, and certain things are holding me back. It's unsettling, knowing I could be living my life to the fullest when, at the moment, I'm living it...ordinarily. I never thought I'd be afraid of such a thing as living an ordinary life, but I am. I never even thought about it until this year, when I'm discovering limits I didn't know existed.

So I have a lot on my mind, a few big decisions to make, and positive attitude to maintain through it all. I just have to hope and pray that everything falls into place. And so I'll leave you with a new favorite quote:

"Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for."  -Joseph Addison

little treasures

I treasure those moments when I first step outside on a frosty, winter day. The air is crisp and fresh and bites at my eyes and nose. An icy wind plays with my hair and sends small clumps of snow sailing off branches of trees and onto the white, crystal-covered ground. My soft boots are warm at first, but after treading through the snow for a few minutes, my toes begin to get chilled.

I treasure those first few sips of hot tea, with a dash of cream and a teaspoon of sugar.

I treasure creativity. Art really is an amazing thing.

I treasure golden afternoon sunlight streaming through windows.

I treasure lazy days and slouchy beanies and photography.

What do you treasure?

a new year's resolution

My first post of the new year on January 9th? Well..... I wish you all a belated Happy New Year!

I'm going to let you in on a secret: I've always been terrible at setting new-year resolutions. I mean really awful. I can never think of anything that I want to do or pick something that I have the will power to stick with.
However, I've made up my mind about something to do this year. I chose something that I've been missing, something that I haven't done in a while and miss very much.

Art. Creating. Ever since I started going to school, I've gotten less and less time to draw, paint, and craft. I think this is kind of ironic, considering I go to an art school... But I digress. I miss it. So so much.
Art was my favorite form of relaxation, it was something I could rely on to take me away from reality for an hour or two. A way for me to just let stress melt out of my mind for a while.
So I've decided to start drawing more, despite my insane schedule. Once a week. I will be happy if once a week I just sit down with a pencil and a sketch pad and do whatever I want. I may even post some photos of my creations :)

Do you have a new-years resolution?

thankfulness

Thanksgiving weekend has been a break I won't quickly forget. Here is a quick list of things that I'm thankful for:

•crisp nights spent outside with my family surrounding our little fire pit
•photography
•my morning playlist
•the occasional warm day thrown into bitter cold ones in late November
•multiple mugs of coffee and tea throughout the day
•loud, hearty laughter
•falling asleep in the cabin listening to the fire crackle and waking up to find a thin layer of snow dusting the mountains
•hot cocoa with whipped cream
•inside jokes
•long conversations with my friends, talking about anything and everything
•getting up early to go to mass with my family
•the official start of the holiday season

What are you thankful for?
