the end of a rainbow

What do you think of when you hear "the end of a rainbow"? A pot of gold? Leprechauns? Riches and wealth that will last a lifetime? Perfect happiness?

I don't exactly know what to think. But rainbows fascinate me. They always have. Tell me I'm not the only one who wanted to slide down one as a kid ;)
But what is at the end of a rainbow?

It's one of those things we'll never know. But we can always imagine...

I know, you're probably thinking, "Hannah, how and when did you see this?" Well, I'll tell you:

Last week we were driving to my great aunt's house and lo and behold, there was a rainbow. Naturally, everyone was craning their necks to see it, because it was just so dang bright. But after driving a few more miles, we saw it. The end of the rainbow.
I have never seen anything like it in my life. It was so amazing.

weekend at the cabin

Cabin weekends are my favorite. For multiple reasons, really, but all the little details intertwine and come together to create two days of joy. Here are some scenes from a most memorable time:

It was a great weekend. But it's nice to be home ;)

home again home again

Coming back from a vacation is hard. Especially this one. I just spent about ten days being mostly alone, running errands for my great aunt, catching up on some Jeopardy with her, and having an all around amazing time. Waking up every morning in a different bed, a different setting, with a different routine was so refreshing.
But now I'm back, and I deeply apologize to you faithful readers for not giving you more updates!

At the moment, I'm returning emails like a mad woman. I feel like I have so much to do, as most people  probably feel when they get back from a long trip. And I also have some unfortunate news:
My great aunt (not the one I was staying with) passed away yesterday morning. She has been suffering for months and years now, trying to recover from brain bleeds and strokes. Her passing has honestly been a relief for the family, because we know that she is now in a better place, but everyone is still sad.

vacation part I

Sorry I haven't posted in a while guys, it's really hard to get internet connection here :)

I am loving my vacation! It is so awesome just to be alone and have quiet all day long, even if it's hard to get used to (you people with 3+ siblings will understand this!).
During the car drive here I watched as the scenes out my window shifted from suburbs to city to long, endless roads to countryside and back to suburbs again, only the neighborhood I'm in now is so much more quiet than the one I live in (seriously, I'm outside typing this and all I hear are crickets chirping and a dog barking on and off in the distance).

sorry this is a picture-less post but when you only have one bar of internet connection the photo uploader doesn't really cooperate :P
So now I will leave you for who knows how long, maybe until I get back, but the laptop battery is in the red zone and there is a scary bug buzzing around so I'll talk to ya'll later!

in the mountains

a few days ago we got back fro a trip to our mountain house. So. Fun. I'm writing this post quick because I have to pack (more on that later) but here is what my few days in the mountains consisted of:

baking a chocolate cake for my dad's birthday...

admiring my funky boots...

walking in the woods...

watching kate catch salamanders (I won't touch the slimy little things ;])

and just trying my best to experience the beauty of everything without going nuts about all the tiny bugs flying around my head.  don't know why but there were waaayyyy more than usual...

and now friends I must go finish packing for my second great adventure. I am journeying to my great aunt's house where I will catch up on some rest and relaxation for a week+. 

I'm not sure if I'll be able to post or not because my aunt doesn't have wifi, but we'll see :)

scenes from the mountains

I haven't been on blogger much these past few days, and the next week or two will be extremely busy, so I'm not sure how much I'll be around. I'll try to schedule some posts though :)
Anyway, I've thrown together a post with pictures that I took the last time we went up to our mountain house. Enjoy!

Love this photo, the flower was gorgeous. A bunch of different things were in bloom when we went up there last...

and all the berries, fruit and other edible deliciousness has started to come out!

okay, I have no idea whatsoever what that bug thing is in that photo ^^^ but it looks scary. If anyone can  identify it that'd be awesome :)

A whole bunch of raptors were flying above the house throughout the day.

We were so glad that the weather was decent–not too hot, not too cold–and it didn't rain. Around noon some relatives came up and we had a blast taking them gown to the brook, walking in the woods, and just generally enjoying nature ;)

I love summer ;)

I'm back!

Vacation (yes, vacation) was so fun! We spent a day at our cabin, went to my great aunt's for a four days and then spent another day and a half at the cabin. Here are a few photos from vacation:

I'm BAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!

Yes blog world, I have returned! My vacation was amazing, relaxing and just generally fun.

At first being by myself was strange, but after the first day I was perfectly fine.

Did I cry when my family drove away? Almost.

Did I cry when I had to leave my aunt's? Almost.

Did I cry when I saw my family waiting for me in a parking lot? Did I cry when I saw Mark hanging out the window waving and then dancing around like a maniac when we pulled into the parking lot? Did I cry when they all came running towards me? Did I cry when they gave me a huge group hug?

Of course not. :)

I didn't snap too many photos at my aunt's but when I was at the mountains with my family I went crazy :)

Above is a picture of Pink Piggy. I've had her since I was a baby and of course she had to come ;)

When me and my grandma and my other great aunt were driving to meet my family we stopped at a bead store. 

It. Was. So. Beautiful. In. There.

And then in the mountains:

"I'm the tin man!"

For a week I read, wrote, drew, took photos, watched TV and enjoyed my peace and quiet. I said to my mom, "I could easily have stayed for another week." (Just because it was so relaxing, nothing against my family!)

I hope I get to do it next year!! And I got a very special gift from my aunt. I don't feel comfortable posting the gift here so if you would care to know, just shoot me an email!
